CATSKILLS RECORDS + FEB 2010 + MARGIN LONDON

Margin is pleased to welcome Catskills Records who will be providing the sounds of the February 2010 exhibition, as well as a limited-edition CD exclusively for visiting buyers and press featuring tracks from their great roster of artists +If you think you don’t know the output of fiercely independent Catskills Records, then think again. With a slice of infectious breakbeat funk, label-signing Feature Cast invigorated an Apple iPod TV ad, and Pepe Deluxe sound-tracked Levi’s biggest and most successful advertising campaign to date. +

Independent label Catskills Records was formed in 1996 by a London / Brighton collective to release underground talent from their home turf. The label represents the best that both scenes have to offer, and has since spread it’s wings to other parts of the UK with Bushy, Zero Theory, Sonorous Star, Nylon Rhythm Machine, Black Grass, Vibra and now to Europe and the rest of the world with the signings of Pepe Deluxe and Husky Rescue from Finland and Capsule from Germany +

There is no particular formula, no particular style and no particular genre of music that represents Catskills; it’s all about the Head Nod Factor: if it’s got it then they’ll spin it +

Catskills is run by people involved at every stage of the game, DJ’s, producers, and designers, with the emphasis always on experimentation, artistic freedom and artist diversity +

Music + August 2009 + Jalapeno Records

JALAPENO RECORDS
Margin is pleased to welcome London-based label Japapeno Records who will be providing the soundtrack to the August 2009 edition of the upscale streetwear & directional tailoring tradeshow +Jalapeno Records have long been purveyors of all thing eclectic in the world of dance: from funk to lounge, breakbeat to house, the label has no respect for boundaries or genre; the only prerequisite is, of course, quality. Sharp label signings are leading the way which keeps Jalapeno Records on the cutting edge of nu-funk, mixing the best of classic funk & soul with innovative club productions +

Jalapeno Records may be based in London but their international signings provide a fully rounded diversity as rewarding as it is varied. From Israeli turntablists Radio Trip to the future funk of Dutch outfit Kraak & Smaak; from the smooth club grooves of Belgian D’Stephanie to the organic breakbeats by USA’s All Good Funk Alliance: Jalapeno’s global ear stretches far and wide to complement their exceptional homegrown talent including fresh funksters Soopasoul, modern northern-soul from Smoove & Turrell, the DJ wizardry of Dr. Rubberfunk, the lounge funk of Skeewiff, amongst many other progressive musicians +

As well as providing the summer sounds during the trade exhibition, tracks from the back, current and future catalogue by the great roster of artists at Jalapeno Records will feature on a limited-edition Margin CD exclusively for visitors to the Margin London exhibition taking place on the 2nd & 3rd of August 2009 +

Music + February 2008 + Nublu Records

NUBLU

NUBLU
Margin London was pleased to welcome the sounds of New York Club and Record Label Nublu who provided the soundtrack to the February 2008 edition.

As well as providing the backing soundtrack to the show, Nublu provided a limited-edition Margin CD exclusively for Margin visitors featuring new tracks from their stable of artists.

When people ask about the Nublu sound, Ilhan Ersahin, the bandleader and owner/founder of Nublu keeps the answer simple: “We play music.”

To explain a little more, though, the Nublu sound is a unique blend of elements that could only have been conjured up in the true melting pot of the world, New York City. It started off three years ago at 62 Avenue C with Ilhan and his friends—some from Brazil, some from Eastern Europe, some from the UK, and some from the US. They would just come together and jam, their improvisations developing into compositions that grew out of all their influences, shared and individual: the soul of New Orleans, the rhythms of Sao Paolo, the edge of Bristol, the dub of Kingston, and the beats of DJs from across the globe. Eventually those jams became songs, and those momentary combinations of musicians became bands, bands like Kudu, The Brazilian Girls, Wax Poetic, Forro in the Dark, and Love Trio. All representing different moments in time and different sounds, but a similar ideal.

Nublu, the club and the record label, is not about a genre. It’s not about a type of person. It’s not even necessarily about music. Nublu is about right now.

Margin has expanded the show by opening up an addtional 20% of floorspace to make room for the growing number of exciting UK and International start-ups looking to exhibit in London during London Fashion Week +

By opening up a previously unused area of the Margin venue to make for a larger Magazine and Media Lounge, the  February 2008 edition has grown to over 90 exhibitors to create the largest curated selection of Mens and Womens streetwear exhibitors in Central London + By hand-picking great brands that Margin considers relevant and exciting to contemporary buyers and press, Margin has created our largest show to date and a one-stop selection in the very centre of London in Soho +

Margin is well known amongst key buyers and press for providing an affordable launchpad for new labels and the February 2008 edition is no exception with over 80% of exhibitors making their global debut +

Originally established to provide a relevant showcase for upscale streetwear brands such as Dephect, Lost Property and Ames Bros, the show has expanded gradually and carefully each season to encompass additional product areas.

The sharp tailoring and elegant designerwear of the Kreateur area has been honed each season to highlight cutting-edge garments with labels such as Social Suicide, Missmilne, Emily & Fin, and Dusty.

In August, the new accessories area GILD was added to the show to focus on directional accessories ranges by new brands such as Punky Pins, Pik & Pokket, Prod, and Zillion who will be exhibiting in the February GILD.

New for February 2008, Margin has added an area for eco-aware streetwear labels called TraidFare , highlighting brands that use organic fabrics and manufacture responsibly and sustainably such as Kuyichi, Komodo, THTC, Organic Stereo, Regenerate, Rise-Up, Moly Kulte and Jumble and other ethical fashion brands.

Margin will take place on the 10th 11th & 12th February 2008 at The Vinyl Factory Gallery in Soho , map online at www.margin.tv/map

MISSION + Margin exists to promote young upscale streetwear labels. The Original and the best platform for new talent for the over 6 years, Margin was established to help new labels reach a wider buying and press audience. Margin was created out of necessity. Retailers travel the world looking for the next big thing but are never going to find up-and-coming labels at a show whose costs prohibit fresh talent. The main drive of Margin was to establish a show where new young labels could find an affordable platform.
