Art + February 2004 + Sarah Gregory
Transforming the bar area of the womens edition of Margin into an artists studio, Sarah Gregory converts erotic imagery into fine art with traditional paint applications.
Sarah Gregory’s most recent exhibition of drawings and paintings was entitled ‘The Twenty Five Loves Of Silas Holmes’ at the Space Gallery in Pimlico.
Three of the works were reproduced in the book ‘Where Is Silas?’. Like the larger than life oils presented here, the ‘Silas’ series was of nudes and semi-nudes taken from the pages of Playboy and Penthouse published in the 60’s and 70’s. Quite explicit, the paintings transform the images into something closer to portraiture.
In the last few years Sarah has been painting private commissions as well as record sleeves for S Express, Derrick May, Nico. She collaborated with Goldie on work for an exhibition at the Blue Note gallery where she subsequently had her own show.
