Margin is pleased to announce the exchange programme with International Fashion Fair Tokyo.
Organised by leading Japanese fashion industry publisher Senken Shimbun, the International Fashion Fair (IFF) is the largest trade exhibition in Japan. Between 1 to 3 labels exhibiting at Margin London in July 2006 will be selected by the IFF committee to exhibit free of charge in the directional hall called “Creators Village“.
By return, a Japanese exhibitor from the Creator’s Village at IFF Tokyo will be able to exhibit free of charge at Margin in London. Senken Shimbun have regularly visited to report on Margin since the shows started in 2002 and selected Margin as the only UK event to take part in the exchange programme based on the directional offering of labels.

The Showroom Group’s successful Internet site www.Spaceshowroom.com enables brands to upload their line sheets for accredited buyers to browse online and download at their convenience. More than 2,500 buyers are registered to view the more than 100 line sheets on the site.
The twice-yearly Margin exhibition was established in 2002 to create an affordable platform for new and young brands.

Next fall’s fashion trends
Recently we checked out Margin London, the leading alternative streetwear tradeshow in the UK. Here’s a quick rundown of the major trends from the show:
Vintage: When will this not be a trend? Get Cutie from Brighton showed 50s-inspired big bold floral print dresses that were snapped up by buyers. D4 Discus featured vintage inspired prints on 70s style maxi dresses and eco-friendly label Our World Recycled had similarly glamorous sun dresses. Yamama did Me Decade silhouettes in the form of mohair knitwear.
Military: Army jackets were plentiful, as were camouflage prints and details such as epaulettes. Apestein’s U.S. military influenced collection featured fitted crinkled cheesecloth shirts. Southwest Clothing fused army influence with fluorescent graphics, another strong trend.
Rock n Roll: This trend is still going strong, too. Apestein’s far out t-shirt graphics were heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix and 60s psychedelia in general. Wendy’s rock belts had previously been worn by Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten. Lost Property’s graphics were based on t-shirts worn by John Lennon and Frank Zappa.
Tailoring: Although Margin is best known for streetwear, the show is also becoming a destination for more formal tailoring. French men’s and womenswear brand Kulte combined vintage American shirting and striped knits with slim, satin dinner suits. Minimalist Swedish womenswear label Reflective Diffusion put the emphasis on superior quality well-cut basics; detailing was limited to the seams in a range of tops, capes and dresses. Spanish label El Ganso fused tailoring with sports details, such as felt stripes on heritage fabrics and formal coats.

Sportswear International Streetwear Tradeshow Report
Sportswear International #204
Margin – London, England Launched four years ago, Margin was established to offer a show ‘where new young labels could find an affordable platfrom’ says show owner Odysseas. ‘Streetwear shows can be simpler without monolithic booths and competing sound systems – it saves brands feeling the need to compete in booth design and it saves them time and money,’ he adds. ‘Margin provides a stylish space where the product is key, we have a simple layout that brings the collections and the art to the attentions of visiting buyers and press.’ The biannual show moved venues to the Royal Horticultural Halls for its February 2006 edition. Its regular exhibitors include Supremebeing, Dephect, Lady Luck Rules OK, Lazy Oaf, I Saved Laurence, New Urban, Slush, 2sickbastards and Urban Urban. www.margin.tv
… hip young British brands continue to gather at Margin …
Yet, paradoxically, among all the change it fosters, streetwear also thrives on consistency. As Odysseas, the owner of the London-based streetwear show Margin, says: ‘The most successful brands are the ones who know what they’re about and stick to that message from season to season with no particular attention paid to mainstream trends.’
Feeling the love
“Thanks for a great show, took lots of good new orders, so it’s all good!” I Saved Laurence
