Feeling the Love +

“As usual Margin helps me to find the quirkiest clothing ranges for men and women and also accessories. I enjoyed this season very much with a great selection in jewellery and a strong womenswear display. I made a lot of orders which saves me having to run around agencies to find new blood. Brilliant show to find on season stock too! Thank you Margin!”

6 Aug. 2009 LONDON S/S 10 TRADE SHOW REPORT Following the departure of TBC and The Park, the London trade show scene for streetwear and young fashion has been far from overcrowded. The existing Margin and Pure Spirit fairs, however, continued to deliver powerful showcases. Over at the intimate and inherently charming show that is Margin (Aug. 2-3), a fusion of 80s disco and Dynasty glam existed alongside a more crisp and fresh alternative. Incorporating sequins with gusto, the punk-inspired label Misfit presented a black hoodie smothered entirely in sequins, each applied by hand. It didnt come cheap but we had to make at least one, enthused Lena Jansen about the collections ultimate showpiece. Going down a more utilitarian path, the London label Arms carried on with its raison detre, namely to provide practical yet satisfyingly quirky clothing for studio based boys and girls. Newcomer Germaine Minette, meanwhile, catered to men exclusively. The labels finely tuned spring collection spanned the entire menswear spectrum, where suits sat comfortably next to cotton shorts and checked runner vests, all of which would impress the modern Dandy with a sense of fun. Being the all-encompassing showcase that it is, Margin didnt exclude denim from the mix. This season, Oak made a welcome return to the show, nestled next to the premium denim player, Trousers London. On the footwear front, Finnish shoe brand St.Vacant served up bespoke styles for men and women that are ergonomical but far from dowdy. To put it in designer Janne Laxs words, its an aesthetic that is timeless but in a peculiar way. Come to think of it, that may well go to describe what works best in London right now. Although the event seemed more quiet than usual (no figures were released), visitors which did come through the door were high caliber and included buyers from Beams, United Arrows, Elephant, Bread & Honey, House of Fraser, Fenwicks, Top Man and Asos. Oft trifft man unvermittelt Kostbarkeiten.

Better Never Than Late / BNTL +

Monday, 3 August 2009 Margin 09 Today me and Big Ron were invited down to the Margin Trade Show at the Music Rooms. Margin is Londons only independent trade show that hand picks brands from around the world that they feel will benefit from the exposure of a London trade show. Retailers, buyers and distributors are all invited down along with the press. Here are a pick of mine and Ronnies favourite brands... Vestal featured as an established brand and it was a good chance to check out some of their new colletion... A brand called Germain Minette had a really interesting background, they were looking to move their brand into the European market after doing really well in Asia as well as having a flagship stored planned for opening in Shanghai. New label Unequal Balance were launching their first collection at Margin and with a solid range of prints they also had a couple of cut and sew bits... Trousers London a brand I was introduced to last year were back and the update from the camp was that the brand is doing very well, stocked in two places in London and still seeing good trade overseas. The quality of the denim was the first thing you noticed and also some of the attention to detail was encouraging... Another brand I saw last year was Conquer whos designs were concentrated on etchey pencil illustrations. The ladies vest top was said to be one of their best sellers. Ladies brand Jojo & Mac had a nice, playful collection. Bits included cardigans, pullovers and woolly jumpers... The brand Arms definetly stole the show for me, their whole line was cut and sew with a very clean and classic feel to the collection. They are based in Dublin and are looking for more stockists nationwide. If this first collection is anything to go by then I expect to be seeing and hearing a lot more from Arms... On the whole Margin looks like a great success, in this current climate its good to see new brands working hard to make a name for themselves. Not just throwing out prints either, its plain to see a lot of investment, time and design has gone into the majority of brands showcasing. Shout to Odyseas the man behind Margin... More information on all the brands that featured can be found on the Margin website here.

Margin London Trade Show Wann: Sonntag 2. & Montag 3. August 2009, 10-18 Uhr Wo: The Music Rooms, South Molton Lane, London W1 http://kinkimag.com/blog/margin-london/
