My Yard SS10 Artist Collection
15 June, 2010

After a brief manufacturing delay, the Summer collection of tees and sweats from Bristol born My Yard have finally hit the shelves. The My Yard boys took a little extra time to produce the new collection to ensure that all prints and materials met the exact standard they expected, and it appears its been worth the wait.
The My Yard Summer collection contains a number of T-shirts and sweatshirts featuring the work of some of the UKs most exciting and talented artists. You ll find the work of Batman, Dirty Thirty, Ben Normanton, Andy Council, Cheba and Nikill on a wide range of different coloured tees and sweats. I first picked up on My Yard at the Margin London tradeshow earlier this year and was massively impressed with the samples. Ben Normantons work is my personal favourite - clean, punchy graphics with some great illustrations.
The new range is currently available to by from the My Yard Store on Park Street in Bristol and is expected at retailers any day now, including Urban Industry and Chemical Records. The My Yard boys recently shot a lookbook for their collection, in Japan. Check some shots out below.

Margin boss calls for indies to star on website
12 June 2010 | By Eve Oxberry
The founder of young fashion trade show Margin is finalising plans to launch a consumer website that will host video tours of indie stores from around the world.

Show owner Odysseas said the website would be kept separate from Margin to ensure it was consumer-facing rather than trade-facing. A name for the site has yet to be finalised.

The site will launch in October and feature store tours of indies including Sarah Coggles of York, Ju-Ju in Brighton and Elements in Norwich.

Odysseas has toured the country to make the videos and has invited any indie that is interested in being featured to contact him at info@margin.tv.

Indies must have at least one bricks-and-mortar store and sell more than one brand to be considered for filming.

If enough indies from one area apply, Odysseas will visit that area to film on-site at the stores. He has just returned from Brighton and is now planning a trip to Middlesbrough for the next filming session, before heading to Rotterdam in the Netherlands in August.

Odysseas is yet to decide how the site will be funded, but said indies would never be charged a fee for being featured.

The concept is being tested with a few videos on the www.margin.tv site and Odysseas said the response had been positive. I-ve had tons of emails from buyers since the videos went live. Stores from across the UK and also as far afield as Spain want to get involved.

Odysseas has already filmed 15 indies and intends to have 100 videos completed in time for the sites launch.

Ahead of the launch, Odysseas will promote the new website via social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter and will also post the videos on video-sharing websites YouTube and Vimeo to drive traffic.

Cult Brand SILAS Selects Margin for International Return +

After an absence of over four years, cult streetwear brand Silas is returning to the UK and will be making their European tradeshow debut exclusively at Margin London. Silas have never previously exhibited at a trade exhibition and will only be showing their collection at Margin in London and no other trade events this season.

Established in London in 1998, but moved to Japan in 2006, seminal label Silas & Maria changed the global perception of British streetwear and kick-started the developing UK vinyl toy market with Martin, the “face” of Silas designed by illustrator James Jarvis.

With a growing global fanbase, the reach of the brand extended beyond clothing into print. Based on the history of fictional character Silas Holmes, the respected art book “Where is Silas?” was published in 2003 and featured the work of designers, artists, and illustrators including Lizzie Finn, James Jarvis, Will Sweeney, Fergus Purcell and Sarah Gregory (whose oil paintings were on display at the February 2004 edition of Margin London) to name a few.

Since 2006, when the original founders decided to concentrate on other projects, most accounts outside of Japan were closed which frustrated many international fans of the brand keen to continue their relationship with Silas.

Silas will be exhibiting their clothing & accessories collection exclusively at the 19th edition of Margin London on the 1st & 2nd August 2010 and will not be exhibiting at any other trade exhibitions.

Margin is the only UK trade show where buyers & press can discover fresh new talent alongside credible established young fashion brands, such as Silas, Obey, & Vestal.

Margin is the longest-running independent trade exhibition for directional mens & womens clothing & accessories in London. An established and credible location to discover fresh design talent and do business, Margin has proven a successful hunting ground for key buyers & press to find like-minded brands since the shows started eight years ago.

MARGIN PREMIERES NEW SHOP TOUR VIDEOS
Margin, the independent London trade exhibition, has turned its attention to promoting its core constituents of indie shops that keep towns and cities stocked with fresh product.

'Independent stores are a vital part of the retail landscape,' said exhibition organiser Odysseas. 'They're the stores that pick up on new designers first, at least two years before department stores and corporate multiples, and they bring excitement to shopping. After looking around online, I couldn't believe there wasn't a dedicated website promoting these forward-thinking boutiques in a credible or enticing way, so we're planning on launching a consumer-facing website later this year to promote these important shops to the public. In the meantime,' Odysseas added, 'the videos are working double duty on the Margin site as well.'

The first wave of Shop Tour videos premiered on May 24 on Margin

Music + Freshly Squeezed @ Margin London + August 2010

MARGIN x FRESHLY SQUEEZED MUSICMARGIN x FRESHLY SQUEEZED MUSIC
Margin is pleased to welcome Freshly Squeezed Music who will be providing the juicy Summer sounds of the August 2010 exhibition, as well as a limited-edition CD exclusively for visiting buyers and press featuring tracks from their great roster of artists +

Freshly Squeezed Music is a Brighton-based, UK independent record label and publisher.

Evolved from the seminal London club night, Club Montepulciano that ran for over 11 years (and was described as a “clubland institution” by the Evening Standard and as one of the “things you have to do before you can call yourself a real Londoner” by Time Out). Having pioneered the emerging Lounge, Cabaret and Burlesque scenes through out the 90s, when the sound and style went mainstream, setting up a label seemed an obvious step.

Featuring the best contemporary lounge music from a collection of forward-looking international artists, the label also released the debut album from the clubs resident DJ, Lemon.

In 2005, when the club retired (while still going strong) Freshly Squeezed was created to broaden the roster while releasing a second artist album from Lemon and music from The Voodoo Trombone Quartet, The Pinker Tones and Foxglov.

With eclectic and excitingly individual artists such as Don Air, Dodo, Stereo De Luxe, Lodekka and more now putting material out on the label, and “landmark” (Mixmag) compilations like White Mink : Black Cotton, indie-chart success, an MTV Dance top ten, the Eclectrik label sampler nominated one of the “best records of the year” (Bearded Magazine), Freshly Squeezed continues to find fresh, quirky and original new music that is both underground but accessible. “Future cult classics” said The Independent.

In addition, after a run of high-profile synch licensing successes, 2007 saw the launch of a sister publishing company. During the first year, their music accompanied several major Hollywood films (including Knocked Up and The Heartbreak Kid), sound-tracked numerous TV shows, most notably Ugly Betty (many times over), became an MTV theme tune, and appeared in many house-hold name ads. Tracks have also appeared in games like LittleBIGplanet on the SONY PlayStation…

So if you think you havent heard the music of Freshly Squeezed, think again.
